Ingeborg zu Schleswig-Holstein: New Dimensions of Abstraction

11am to 1pm on Sunday 26 May 2013Werkstattgalerie presents works by Ingeborg zu Schleswig-Holstein: a new abstraction that, in reality, is a different kind of concretion.
Ingeborg Princess zu Schleswig-Holstein was born in Bienebeck close to the northern German city of Kiel. The vast expanses of countryside and the closeness to the sea shaped her visual and artistic awareness from a very early age onwards. After graduating from Stiftung Louisenlund, she studied art with Professor Manfried Grossmann at the Fachhochschule für Gestaltung in Hamburg and graduated in 1981.
Attending the opening of the Joseph Beuys-Andy Warhol exhibition Kunst = Kapital (Art Equals Capital) in Dusseldorf, she met Andy Warhol who invited her to become his artistic assistant in the Factory. In New York, Ingeborg zu Schleswig-Holstein later opened her first studio in SoHo and embarked on her career as a painter.
She has painted several projects in an dialogue with composers, writers and poets like Augustyn Bloch (A Prayer for Gdansk), Robert Wilson, Liao Yiwu (For a Song and 100 Songs) and Tanikawa ShuntarÅ (Talking Water). The latter was realized at Werkstattgalerie in May 2012 when Ingeborg zu Schleswig-Holstein met the Japanese poet together with the Swiss rapper Jürg Halter who read their newly published Renshi-poem (Chain-poem) Talking Water. Paintings from this meeting will be presented at Murray Edwards College along with most recent paintings and drawings.
