About Barbara Rogers
In this painting Barbara Rogers is looking back to her childhood: “Because of the confusion at the end of the war in Austria we had to move frequently and take all kinds of strange and forbidding accommodation. So rather than providing a friendly cosy haven, houses started to mean a mystery or even a threat. This picture maybe shows both. A possible way through is shown with a dark half doorway - but it might in fact not let you pass through.” The use of closely related colours gives the piece an oppressive feel.
Barbara Rogers exhibited her work at New Hall in 1997.Red Houses
