About Tessa Traeger
France Profonde is a book of portraits in photographs and words, telling stories of a collection of individuals still living in the traditional way in a remote mountainous corner that is called the Vivarais. Tessa Traeger describes how they have long ago learned to live with nature, not against it and produce food of the highest quality with the most modest means. She recalls the sitters and how they reacted to her camera and all the actual detail of her encounters. In this way by dwelling on the detail she hopes to bring their valuable legacy alive and make it relevant for people today. She also describes the young people and their struggle to survive in this intense period of change.
