For over 30 years Ghisha Koenig's work was concerned with the observation of people at work - most notably at factories in south-east England.

These drawings and reliefs represent scenes at a school for blind children; they were commissioned by the London Society School for the Blind at Dalton House in Seal. The artist spent two months at the school making sketches before she began work on the reliefs in her London studio. They were made in a size small enough for the children's hands to span the finished works.  As in her factory works, the figures are integrated into their environment so as to form a single unit.  Continuing to investigate the theme after finishing the commission, the artist developed a series of very different works which express the isolation felt by the blind.
